Young-legends Dinner get-together!

Work is always my excuse to miss socialising mid-week, so I was pleased to see on 21 Jan 2015, so many hard working Melbourne Alumni find time in their busy lives to get-together. The idea of our get-together was to connect younger alumni with experienced alumni so that learning can take place at both ends and that we can all grow from the experience!

That happened. I started the night feeling old and ended feeling young. I went home hoping my age was defined as eligible for 'young legend' status. Without denying the real legends who we came to celebrate – Mr. Tan Kah Hoe and Mr Alex Ling, I want to claim legend status for the waiter who poured my tea by streaming it into a cup like an Archer from a Castle Tower (without scalding himself or me!).

No legend status for me, unfortunately, despite my best work at dinner, where I attempted to eat my way to glory! I enjoy fine food and I was not letting anyone down. This was really fine dining. I was keeping my eyes on the job.

Our legends were deservedly presented with gifts of appreciation and again we found, as expected, is that if you put a fine group of people together and offer them fine drink and fine food, then you always get a legendary outcome.

Thanks to the organisers. Thank you to all who came, and for all who continue to build the magic that is the Melbourne University Alumni family. I enjoyed hearing our legend’s stories; stories about their working lives built on and around and upon the platform of their Melbourne University degrees.

From every perspective, a great University is great because of the graduates who make it so. We bask in the glory of their success and in their efforts too. Our legends are a testament to that. See you at the next event – fellow legends (young  and old!)
